Gotta Blog

Gotta write a blog. Gotta write a blog. Gotta write a blog.

This has been running through my head the last week. This, along with, "Gotta make the Anton in Show Business schedule. Gotta call Scott. Gotta see that show. Gotta call my mother-inlaw. Hell. Gotta call MY mother."
Who's idea was this silly blog anyway?

Shut up. All of you.

General Auditions are packed with actors tighter than my daughter trying to fit into her size 3 Barbie Magic of Pegasus princess gown from Target. And not just with actors.
We've got directors. Oiy, have we got directors: Will Casey. Scott Phelps. Richard Shavzin. Kevin Gladish. Kathryn Jones. Wayne Mell. And one other one who NEEDS TO CALL ME, PLEASE.
What does a person call numerous directors all in on place? A pack? Flock? Gaggle? A directive of directors?" Suggestions are accepted. Anyway, it all should make for a fun two days.

BTW, we just added the lovely director Kevin Gladish to the Monday Night Play Reading Series roster. A member of Speaking Ring Theatre, http://speakingringtheatre.org/home.html , he can also be seen acting up a storm in Steep Theatre's Bang the Drum Slowly. Yes, as Jason Frydman corrected me (see Jason? You got your mention. Again. I should be getting agent cut for all the PR I give you) I did misname the play in a previous blog. But you see, in my defense, it's another thing about BASEBALL. And GUYS. And baseball being a vehicle for guys to be guys on stage. I know, it is shocking. Steep Theatre doing a show about guys but really, can I be blamed for confusing one baseball/guy play with another? I think not! Kevin and Jason were wonderful. Make your reservations now. They've extended and this Thursday night was sold out.

The Monday Night Playreading Series is going to be quite cool this year. We've got a terrific location downstairs at Holly's American Bistro, www.hollysamericanbistro.com. Fabulous food and wine upstairs, great, hip vibe and then downstairs for the reading. Oct5. 16th. Nov. 13th. Feb. 19th. April 16th. Be there.

John Gion......the consumate costume designer, not only has a vision for the 4Poster, exquisite period garb from his personal collection, a charming and delightful personality and a resume about 12 feet long...but he gave me a four poster bed for the show! He found it in his attic, was going to pitch it and then, being a true theatre person to the bones, called me instead and asked, "Hey, honey, do you need this for your show?" Granted, John and I had to spend a sweaty 1/2 hour trying to fit it into my minivan on a humid, 87 degree day, but troupers that we are, we did it. Well, us and three hammers, a screw driver and not a few cuss words floating up to the heavens.

Poor David. My husband. A lawyer. Civilian. He comes home for work.

"Maddy. There's a bed in our garage."
"Yeah."
"Um...why is there a bed in our garage?"
"David!! I'm producing the 4Poster! I got a bed from John, the costume designer. It's a FOUR POSTER. Didn't you see? Aren't you excited? Isn't this absolutely fabulous?!"
"Oh. Yeah. Great. It looks great....um...How long is it going to be in the garage?"
"Until April."
"April? April 2007?"
"Yes. Isn't it GREAT?! We got the bed!"
"Okay. Sure. Yes, great. Good job, sweetie."
He's a good guy, my husband.

BIG NEWS. The fundraiser is officially AUGUST 5th. 7:00PM to 10:00PM. Live music. Cool drinks. Hot entertainment. Raffle. Specialty drinks. Poolside at Scott and Ellen's house. Come or just send in a donation. Either one. But who doesn't want to miss an opportunity to see slightly tipsy actresses jump into a gorgeous pool with a fabulous, jazzy singer crooning in the moonlight? (I'm currently accepting applicants for the "tipsy actress jumps into the pool" role)

Also, keep an eye on your mailbox for the 2006-2007 season SUBSCRIBE TO CITADEL flyer. It is going to be an exciting, provocative, smart and sophisticated season with great talent already in place. All for less than the cost of one tank of gas (See my previous blog for all things political about the price of gas)

Educational Program has taken flight. Oodles of classes for young and teens, I am very excited about the program. Quite soon we will be adding instructors and more classes for teens and adults. Acting Teachers, keep those resumes coming in. The program is growing in leaps and bounds. The inaugeral slate of classes start this fall.

I did it! Got the blog out. I fear I've forgotten a dozen things regarding all things Citadel but this will have to do for now.
God, i love this business.

Great to see Kevin and Jason last night doing the Lockerroom Shuffle in 8 Men Out... er, Bang the Drum Slowly-catchy beat-hard to dance to it though so I give it a 7.
